What I Ate Wednesday: A Cocktail Recap

Ferry Building - San FranciscoNo meal is complete without a beverage, preferably alcoholic and over the past couple of months I have managed to enjoy quite a few in San Francisco, as well as on my travels.

So, this Wednesday we are talking cocktails!

Don’t worry there will be more food to come and always @katfoodsf.

Gott's - San Francisco

Starting with a draft beer from Gott’s Roadside in the Ferry Building. Gott’s is one of the first establishments in the Ferry Building to open on the weekends, so it is the perfect place to start my cocktail tour.

Laughing Glass MargaritaA trip to Tahoe calls for all the après-ski beverages…even though I don’t ski.

Starting with a Laughing Glass margarita.

Now, I know what you are thinking, but nope. This is not some super sweet ‘Skinny Girl’ pre-mixed margarita. This is a real deal margarita without artificial ingredients and with a proprietary blend of super premium tequila from Mexico.

NO skiing, NO mixing beverages and very little clean up! My kind of vacation.

IMG_8701Now when I like to venture out in Lake Tahoe I hit up Gar Woods. Located right on the lake and home of the world famous, Wet Woody. This is the ideal spot to drink, while admiring the killer views of the lake.

A Piña Colada from the Thompson Miami Beach.

Oh-so basic of me…but when in Miami!

IMG_8857A flaca margarita from China Poblano to kick off a trip to Vegas.

Pair this with the tuna ceviche. Trust me.

IMG_8919A Bam-Boozled Shake is only appropriate in Vegas and is pretty darn hard to finish.

But, I was having a ‘Vegas Baby’ moment so a Cookies & Cream milkshake from Holsteins it was.

IMG_9393Back in San Francisco with a Sagres. One of many craft beers at Grubstake.

Shinola - Tyler FlorenceA Maple Manhattan from the Shinola store opening.

Not my normal drink of choice, but when it is paired with killer bites from Tyler Florence I’ll drink it!

Dirty Habit

And last but not least I serve you with a ‘You Go Glen Coco’ from Dirty Habit.  This cocktail features Rittenhouse Rye, turmeric, coconut, King’s Ginger: spicy rye, coconut cream and ginger. Not only does it photograph very well, but it is the perfect drink to wrap up with here and for the night on their killer rooftop patio.

What I Ate: The Best of North Beach Eats

Calzone's - LasagnaWhen I’m not grubbing at Original Joe’s or Chubby Noodle, you can find me noshing at these joints in North Beach.

I live in North Beach, I eat in North Beach and I do my very best to never leave (in my opinion) the very BEST neighborhood in San Francisco.

Let’s kick off this North Beach mini tour with the BEST lasagna in San Francisco from Calzone’s. I’ve lived in the neighborhood for years and honestly thought of Calzone’s as a tourist trap until my foodie friend + killer chef, Telmo (from up and coming restaurant Uma Casa) took me to Calzone’s.

It is all about the fresh thin pasta sheets in this lasagna. They are light on the cheese and heavy on the slow-roasted pork and beef sugo.

Central Station Deli Sandwich

Next up is Central Station Deli.

North Beach just got a brand new deli and it is conveniently located right next to Central (police) Station.

Their sandwiches are SO good they should be illegal…

Bad joke but the sandwiches are delicious and their menu seems to grow every day!

Stella Pastry - Cannoli

A cannoli in Washington Square Park is a MUST.

My favorite bakery in North Beach is Stella Pastry. Located right on Columbus Ave., this neighborhood sweet spot makes the BEST cannoli’s and is just a short walk to the park.

Mo's Diner San Francisco

Breakfast potatoes on the rotating grill from Mo’s can cure (almost) every hangover.

Pro Tip: The seafood chowder is unexpectantly delicious. Give it a try, just when you are NOT hungover.

Le Chat Rouge - San Francisco - North Beach

KatFoodSF - Golden Boy Pizza

And every North Beach night has to end with a square slice of Golden Boy Pizza.

Ladies Who Lunch – Twice In One Day

Last week I somehow ended up going to two fancy lunches in one day.

#blessed

This called for me to throw on two fancy looks that have been hiding in my closet.

Look #1 featured a Banana Republic skirt that has been hanging in the corner of my closet waiting to be worn for far too long. I paired it with a simple white button down, nude pumps and two anklets to still give this feminine look a little bit of street style flare.

Look #2 was all about lace in this uber ladylike fit + flare dress. I paired it with pink pumps and my vintage Chanel clutch to stick with the ‘Ladies Who Lunch’ theme…with just the right bit of edge.

Clare V. - Clutch

Poshmark - Chanel Clutch

What I Wore – Look #1:

Top: Banana Republic, Riley-Fit Poplin Shirt

Skirt: Banana Republic, Taffeta Midi Skirt

Shoes: Christian Louboutin, (old). Shop new red-soled pumps here + here.

What I Ate Wednesday: Ferry Building Eats

El Porteno - EmpanadaSan Francisco’s Ferry Building is filled with artisanal bites, beers + birds!

Yep, that is a bird ripping my (maybe?) delicious empanada from El Porteño out of my hands before I could even try it!

I decided to explore the Ferry Building last weekend + hit up some of my favorite spots along the way.

Gott's - BeerNeedless to say, an ice cold beer was necessary after the bird attack, so I hit up Gott’s.

They open at 10 on the weekend!

Gott's - Fries

Sweet Potato Fries (chili spice dusted), Buffalo Sauce and some magic house-made ranch (not pictured).

Pro Tip: Mix all the sauces together + dip.

Gott's - Onion Rings

THICK + BEER-BATTERED

Onion Rings for the win!

Dip these bad boys in the sauce mentioned above.

Hog Island - Oysters

After all the fried snacks I decided to hit up Hog Island Oysters for mussels (and more fried snacks).

These killer mussels had a delicious mix of shallots, celery leaves, leeks, mustard, white wine + butter –

A new Hog Island favorite.

However, an old Hog Island favorite, the grilled cheese sandwich (not pictured + not eaten) is no longer on my list of favorites!

Hog Island - Oysters

Grilled Oysters Rockefeller for the finish + the win!

My favorite bite of the day, but I guess I’ll never know about that empanada until I hit the Ferry Building again!
