KatwalkNOLAI am back in the city by the bay (and back to work)…so now all I have left are my photos, my belly and my memories (that are just coming back to me)!

So…here are a few of my favorites and suggestions from NOLA:

The Carousel Bar (above), Napoleon House and Lafitte’s Blacksmith Shop Bar, in that order. The Carousel Bar is all about the atmosphere. The bar moves and the drinks are nice and strong. The Napoleon House serves a mean Pimm’s cup and an even meaner charcuterie plate. Order both. Now we closed out the trip at Lafitte’s. This is bar far one of the best bars I have ever been to. It houses an amazing piano bar (literally a piano that you can drink at) and a gorgeous bartender and pianist. I am pretty sure I shut it down while sing/screaming to Eric Clapton Monday night.

I ate enough on this trip to break the scale at weight watchers and forcing me to chug Pepto at any given moment, while loving every minute of it. Here are a few of my favorite spots: Bayona, The Italian Barrel (above) and GW Fins. A special thank you to my sister, Veronica for all her fabulous suggestions and our new friend, Kevin (featured by DLo here) for making our bellies very full and satisfied!

Well then hell, I guess that means you should break out your inner southern bell and act like a lady before heading back to the French Quarter. I participated in afternoon tea (alone) at the Windsor Court. This tea service was so sweet and made me feel like a real lady. I highly suggest it and staying at the Windsor Court. It is the perfect safe haven from the French Quarter and serves a lifesaving honey/banana smoothie in the morning!

IMG_0083Shop one of the best vintage Chanel collections I have ever seen at Vintage 329. This place makes Didier Ludot in Paris look like a major rip off acid trip. Vintage 329 is filled with amazing vintage pieces and the staff is willing to let you try on everything and negotiate!

IMG_0034Pack a variety of clothes. While we were in New Orleans we experienced temperature from 81 degrees to 39 degrees!

After spending nearly five days in NOLA I have learned a couple of things:

1. The weather is actually more unpredictable than SF. We have experienced weather from 81 degrees and humid to 39 degrees and raining!

2. The people and culture are amazing (and they can hear everything).

3. The food is phenomenal (but after a few days I am begging for my juicer and fresh vegetables).

4. REAL locals speak the yat dialect. Some of our favorite phrases are: Where Y’at or How are you, How’s your mom’n’em or How is your family and the very famous Who dat.

IMG_0024My vintage mink collection grew again this past Christmas when my mother gave me this AMAZING mink collar. This collar original belonged to my mother’s mom, my Nana and my mom had been holding on to it for some time for me. There is something just so luxurious about wearing mink! For this look I wanted it to be all about the collar, so I took this basic gold sweater from Gap and pushed it off my shoulders to highlight the collar.

After a quick online search I learned just how popular mink collar’s were in the 1950s and found quite a few in excellent condition on Etsy.

Marc on a Dime

 Night 2 in New Orleans called for a couple of things:  1. A look that consisted of mostly black. I overindulged on amazing  food and beverages and needed to conceal it! 2. A look that was comfortable! After walking around all day and partying quite hard night 1, my body was ready for a break and I don’t think my hotel bath robe was appropriate for dinner at Bayona.

So I turned to one of my favorite spring trends for the night from Marc Jacobs and went for a black and white striped top and black leggings. I scored this striped top from H&M last week, along with some other “Marc Jacobs” inspired pieces at a fraction of the price.

IMG_0056I finally ditched my classic black quilted Marc Jacobs clutch and broke out this Mason Martin Margiela for H&M glove clutch. The quality of the leather is quite phenomenal considering the price point at H&M and the glove handles give it a funky twist.

A Tourist in Chloé

Today was our first day in New Orleans and time for me to finally wear THE Chloé dress!

This dress was yet another amazing find from Poshmark. I scored this brand new with tags, authentic Chloé, “Silk Vortex Paint Brush Print Trapeze Dress” for only $50! This dress originally retailed for nearly $2,200 and is just so fabulous. The fabric looks like a giant paint brush was swished around and who doesn’t love a dress with pockets? I paired it with my favorite chambray woven and backpack.IMG_0032
