A Big Sur Time Out

IMG_0456After the trip of a lifetime to Ixtapa, Mexico with the girls (more looks to come), I kept the vacation mentality going and hopped in the car with Ash and DLo to Big Sur. The drive was so quick and easy from San Francisco and after a quick stop at A. W. Shucks in Carmel for oysters, we were in Big Sur in nearly two hours flat.

We called the Ventana Inn home for one glorious night. This hotel is nestled along a hill overlooking the glorious Pacific Ocean. The decor in our room was literally to die for, along with the most amazing panoramic scenic views from our very own deck. Even though my bum ankle stopped me from taking advantage of the guided hikes, yoga and the Japanese baths provided by the hotel, I did take a time out alone to enjoy the hammock!

A Margherita/Margarita Celebration

This week has been filled with tons of reasons to celebrate. The first being Gena’s wedding and the reason we are all at this fabulous resort in Mexico. The second is the birthday of Margherita Missoni (2/21) heiress to Missoni (a major Designer I Love) and the final reason to celebrate this week was National Margarita Day (2/22) and the just phenomenal margarita making class we took yesterday (more to come).

So in honor of Margherita’s birthday I present to you my new favorite missoni pareo…IMG_0336

Oh, Mexico. It sounds so simple I just got to go.

IMG_0320As much as I love your song Mr. James Taylor, getting to Mexico is far from simple. It took me 2 airplanes, 5 wheelchairs, 1 mobility van and an entourage that could fill a suburban to get here. Traveling with one functioning leg sucks, but Mexico my friends does not. After a long day of traveling I arrived with 95% of the HBC + the sisters to celebrate Gena’s upcoming marriage and to enjoy some fun in the sun!

So the travel day was well worth it! This is my room and even though it took three of the Capella Hotel’s finest to get me up here it was well worth it!

My Little Pony (Vogue) Hair

So this week has been a time of self reflection & extreme boredom.

So it seemed fitting to phone my girl Emily & mix shit up.

IMG_0257Here is my before look. Nothing too ground breaking: golden blonde base and with blonde highlights and real thick (extra long) bangs.

Maybe it was my new pink cast or this awesome photo I found from Vogue Taiwan, but I woke up ready for a change.

Let me just warn anyone who thinks this is an easy and quick process…It is far from it. Especially if you are blessed with extra thick hair like me and also aware of how to straighten your hair naturally. We started at 10 AM and wrapped at nearly 5PM. This is a long and labor intensive process (especially when you are hopping from the station to the sink) and not for the faint of heart.

Step. 1 Balayage full highlights to lighten the ends for the color and foil the top for my go to blonde crown.

Step 2. (No fun pictures, fill my roots and update my base)

Step. 3 Pastel Balayage

Step 4. Shampoo, conditioning treatment (for my poor over processed hair), comb out & blow dry.

IMG_0283I’m obsessed with the final look & it was well worth the 7 hours it took.
