What I Ate: Rodeo Goat, Dallas

Rodeo Goat, DallasI love a burger (who doesn’t) and I was determined to find a fancy burger during my recent trip to Dallas. After a little research on the interwebs and an uber I found myself at Rodeo Goat in the new/trendy design district of Dallas.

My burger did not disappoint and the servers did not mind me and my solo weirdo set up (camera/laptop/table for 1).

My White Animal Burger featured garlic-roasted cremini mushrooms, pickled onions, gruyere with a soy caramelized glaze. It was everything and dreamed of and more….until I got the queso.

$6.50 for this small white cup of PURE magic. I never quite understood the ‘queso’ hype my friends from Texas would speak of until I finally got my share of the real deal Texas Queso Dip.

I have no idea what is in it and I am pretty sure that I NEVER want to know what is in it, but I highly recommend booking a flight to Texas right this minute and consuming all the Queso!

Yep, keep this burger on my side people. Rodeo Goat was exactly what this California burger lover needed. What are some of your favorite burger spots?

Poolside: Dallas Style

H&M Studio Collection

A long weekend in Dallas called for BBQ, Big Hair + Bathing Suits.

The weather was absolutely perfect, the eats were unreal (more to come on Wednesday) and the people were oh-so-friendly.

Now, the ladies of Dallas take glam to the next level (not my norm). But they definitely inspired me to spend an extra moment in the mirror teasing my weave and applying my makeup properly…even by the pool for this look.

Project Sister Act: Gold Digger

KatWalkSF - Project Sister ActAm I a gold digger? No

But, after looking at my bank account I probably should be.

Ok..back to this blog post. Let’s take a minute and chat about Project Sister Act. The founder of Project Sister Act, Sheela wrote a piece called Dressing My Age. What she didn’t expect, in the process of conducting research for her blog post, was to discover many beautiful women of all ages. A complete debunking of the myth that fashion blogging is restricted to and dominated by only one age group.

Thus, as a follow-up, she started Project Sister Act to showcase how, age notwithstanding, we can all wear the one same colour or accent, in our own way, and pull it off ever so stylish.

What I Ate Wednesday: Jack’s Oyster Bar & Fish House and Bocanova

KatWalkSFThe food scene in Oakland is awesome…from what I hear.

I can’t think of the last time I ventured out there….period.

A fully planned ‘foodie’ adventure across the bridge to Oakland was a welcome idea and probably the only way to get us out there. So, Garry and I ventured out to Oakland a couple of days ago with a group of food bloggers and hit Jack London Square’s, Jack’s Oyster Bar & Fish House and Bocanova.

Each dish we tried at both restaurants were killer and paired with the perfect cocktail.

Jack's Oyster Bar & Fish House

Starting with

DRAKE’S BAY by the DOZEN at Jack’s

Not only were these oysters the perfect size and briny,

They are $1.50 ALL DAY on Wednesdays.

Jack's Oyster Bar & Fish House

Both restaurants sit right on the water with tons of outdoor seating and sun.

Lobster roll bites on housemade pretzel buns at Jack’s (drenched in butter) and paired with the Alameda Brewing Company’s Hefeweizen.

(above)

This combo was by far my favorite. See me shoveling my second lobster roll into my mouth.

Bocanova

Once I cleaned all the butter off my face from the lobster roll’s at Jack’s (and charred octopus – not pictured but delicious), we walked a couple of feet over to Jack’s sister restaurant, Bocanova to finish off the night.

Swordfish Anticuchos (above), with aji amarillo, aji panca and garlic….aka the beautiful sauces smeared on the bottom of the plate.

I missed out on the warm chocolate bread pudding course due to my cinnamon allergy.

#NotBlessed

But I did snag the last drink pairing of a 10-year-old Madeira before hopping on the BART train back to San Francisco.

This was a welcome adventure and will not be the last time I jump on the BART and hit up all the Oakland eats!
