What I Ate: Volta

Volta

Prior to stepping foot into the Architectural Digest worthy space that is Volta my only introduction to Scandinavian food was the food court at Ikea…yikes! But, I love French food quite possibly more than any other cuisine so despite my minimal knowledge of Scandinavian cuisine I walked into Volta with high hopes – in high heels.

The Volta menu pays homage to France and draws from Chef Terje’s Scandinavian heritage, alongside carefully selected wines and beers, classic cocktails and housemade aquavit.

Volta

Some of the standout dishes from my dining experience included:

The Skagen: North Atlantic shrimp, dill and horseradish sauce, toasted brioche, whitefish roe and radish.

The Steak Tartare: Shallots, capers, beets, cornichon and a quail egg.

The Duck Terrine: Cherry compote, truffle gastrique and toasts.

The Volta

And…

To kick off summer, Volta has announced their new Happy Hour menu and Bar Snacks menu.

#TreatYoSelf to Happy Hour at the Volta Bar Monday through Friday from 3:00-6:00pm. You can enjoy Volta Bar Snacks, including a selection of $5 bites and two signature burgers.

(only available at the KILLER Volta Bar)

Star Print MaxiI’ve never met a maxi dress with a slit that I didn’t love.

There is something effortlessly sexy about the style, especially when you are on vacation and rocking a serious (Arizona) tan.

This specific maxi dress is VERY affordable, packed like a dream and me feel like a million bucks.

High On The Hog

Uniqlo and LemaireLast Saturday I attended the 8th annual High on the Hog event at EPIC Steak on San Francisco’s oh-so-picturesque waterfront.

I tasted all the Pinot Noir. I ate all the hog (and all the other gourmet eats).

And I asked to pet all the cute puppies there in support of Guide Dogs for the Blind.Purple Hair

High On The Hog - Epic Steakhouse

This was THE BEST fried chicken sandwich (I know, not HOG) I have ever laid my hands on. Not sure of the details but it came from Epic and it WAS Epic.

A Kurobuta pork cap tostada from Boulevard + Prospect‘s Chef Nancy Oakes.

Great dish, great view and they were passing out tequila shots.

Double Denim + Dip Dye Jeans with a side of Steve Urkel

Gap 1969 Girlfriend Jeans

I can’t stop rocking denim on denim aka ‘The Canadian Tuxedo.’

However, I’ve apparently taken my current love of denim to ‘Steve Urkel’ waistband heights…

Shout out to the Instagram follower who pointed that one out!

Anyways…I’m loving the denim layers and my (mid-rise) 1969 best girlfriend dip dye jeans. These jeans feature a throwback dip dye detail at the waistband and a relaxed cut. Making them a weekend essential.

Friday Forecast: Backyard Footwear

Backyard Footwear

I love Instagram for several reasons, but the #1 reason is to discover new brands and engage with other bloggers.

I found Backyard Footwear on the feet of one my favorite fashionistas on Instagram, stalked them and shortly after they reached out to me!

Made by hand in the same European factory since 1972 with 100% natural and European sourced materials – Backyard sneakers have some serious history. Backyard sneakers became popular during the Seventies and were designed as a tribute to the Ivy League styles worn at Harvard or Yale, or Princeton or Dartmouth.

All of the leather is sourced from Italy and they are made with an eco-friendly process and without chemicals. Despite the rich history of the brand and quality manufacturing, the sneakers are reasonably priced and oh-so-easy to style.

The shoe of the Seventies is the sneaker of today.

Their iconic stripes and the distinctive suede patches make the Tivoli my go-to sneaker this summer.
