It’s Monday and let’s be real – we all wish that we could wear our PJs to work on Monday or is that just me? Anyways I think I found the perfect solution: the teddy coat.
I’m a firm believer in the idea that you can pretty much never have too many coats—particularly if you live in a place where temperatures plummet come winter. It’s ideal to have a few chic options to rotate through, like a printed statement coat, a sleek puffer (yes, we all know I LOVE a puffer), and, of course, my current favorite: teddy coats. After appearing on the fall 2017 runways of Max Mara and Miu Miu, these fuzzy toppers are having a major fashion moment and I’m here for it!
I love the shaggy texture that falls somewhere between fluffy shearling and fleece, and which somehow looks bohemian yet also upscale and polished. Last week I saw a post on the DVF Instagram account asking followers to share their DVF wrap story. The post said:
“From building a fashion empire to falling in love, women have lived the journey of their lives while wearing a DVF wrap dress.”
Aside from the falling in love part (insert ALL the dating apps), I have 100% lived the journey of my life in a DVF wrap dress. My very first designer apparel purchase was a DVF dress.
I saved my paychecks from my first job at Banana Republic and snagged this dress on MEGA sale at Saks. I think it was a size 12 and way too big for me, but it was a DVF wrap dress and it was mine! This shortly became a routine in my life. Anytime I earned a large paycheck or had something to celebrate, I purchased a piece from the DVF collection (eventually in my size).
Flash forward to over fifteen years later and I have a closet full of DVF pieces that I will treasure forever. Last fall I had the honor of meeting Diane when she was in San Francisco for an event. I was shaking and sweating and somehow mustered up the courage to ask her to take a photo with me. She did (seen here) and my fashion girl dreams came true.
A couple of weeks later I was in Los Angeles visiting my grandmother. I showed her my picture with Diane and she immediately instructed my Aunt Margee to find the photo of her in her favorite DVF wrap dress. My aunt quickly found it and to my surprise, it was almost the exact same dress I’m wearing in these photos. This was one of my last memories with my Grandmother and will always be our DVF wrap story.

A mesh maxi dress is probably not the first piece in your closet you grab smack dab in the middle of winter, but hey I did + so should you.
I snagged this dress from ASOS last week. ASOS is my go-to for fashion-forward clothes for oh-so-many reasons, but the main being the affordable price point, unlimited two-day shipping for $19 a year and the fact that (almost) the entire ASOS brand collection is on trend and made for me (lol).
Now let’s talk about styling a very lightweight dress in San Francisco in the middle of winter….. Probably not my smartest move, but when I am determined to style something (regardless of the season) I always find a way to make it work. This dress is more or less screaming spring, so I had to add in some winter elements to make it work! Starting with my fur coat. I snagged this fur on mega sale last winter at Banana Republic and wore it nearly every day of New York and London Fashion Weeks. The coat plus my velvet booties (also from last year) took this look from spring to winter with just a little texture and color.
