What I Ate: Tamarind Hall

Tamarind Hall - Thai Food - North Beach

Allow me to introduce you to North Beach’s newest Thai restaurant Tamarind Hall.

I love San Francisco’s North Beach neighborhood almost as much as I love Benji, so when word got out that there was going to be a new spot opening in my hood I could not have been more excited.

Now, Tamarind Hall may be in the old home of King of Thai Noodle, the borderline frat house Thai restaurant that sat in the same location for almost a decade – but they’ve got nothing in common, even though they’ve often reminded me of the best places to eat in Denver from the last time we visited. Starting with the decor. The team at Tamarind Hall swapped out the graffiti filled walls for an understated and inviting vibe – perfect for a casual date night or after work drinks.

The chef/owner, Salisa Skinner serves up all the entertainment with a side of killer Thai street food. She spent the majority of our meal chatting with us about what inspired Tamarind Hall while encouraging us to CHUG every VERY strong cocktail on the menu. The cocktail list has a special flair for utilizing infused Thai flavors featuring exotic fruits, basil, ginger, kaffir lime and lemongrass. Once we got the cocktails following we moved on to eats.

Salisa and her team brought out almost the entire menu – some of the tables favorites included:

Sai Ua & Namprik Noom (Chiang Mai sausage), Khao Soy Gai (curry noodle soup), Thai Salmon Ceviche, and Steak Lao (USDA prime rib-eye steak marinated in cabernet sauvignon + milk).

[Ruti + Goorin Bros.] Street Style With Two Of My Favorite Bay Area Brands

KatWalkSF - Ruti - Goorin Bros

As a blogger, there is nothing that I enjoy more than working directly with the designers and teams behind some of my favorite brands.

For this look, I teamed up with local Bay Area brands Ruti and Goorin Bros.

I was able to work directly with the designers and key members of their teams to create a look that made me feel like a million bucks – and a look that I most likely would have never put together on my own.

What I Ate: Project Juice – Clean Start Kit

Project Juice - Clean Start Kit

Yes! It is the day before Thanksgiving and I decided to throw a cleaning eating kit at you, but you know I wouldn’t throw it at you if it wasn’t THE TRUTH.

I can down a green juice every day, but plant-based eats are usually NOT MY JAM.

Have you seen the @katfoodsf Instagram account?

I like to EAT.

So when the crew over at Project Juice gave me the opportunity to try out their Clean Kit I was down, but a little apprehensive.

At $59 The Clean Kit consists of plant-powered foods, potent wellness shots, superfood snacks, and cold-pressed juices.

Now let’s talk about the eats.

I went with the Veggie Spring Rolls (left) and Protein Soba Noodles (right).

I ate the Protein Soba Noodles first and was borderline shocked with just how good this dish was. I mixed the dressing with the noodles, sweet potatoes, broccoli + red cabbage and went to town. The almond butter based dressing was BOMB. I would put that dressing on EVERYTHING. This dish left me full and I could easily work it into my meal plan without being left hungry after – my usual issue with healthy eats.

I worked in the juices and wellness shots throughout the day and wrapped up my day with the Veggie Sping Rolls. These bad boys are filled with roasted sweet potato (so damn good), greens, carrots, cucumbers, bell peppers, mint, basil and another KILLER dipping sauce. This dish did not disappoint and once again I was full and satisfied.

Project Juice - Clean Start Kit

The customizable Clean Kit includes:

● Three (3) certified organic, cold-pressed juices

● Two (2) plant-powered grab-and-go meals

● Two (2) 2-ounce wellness shots

● One (1) superfood snack (Sprouted Almonds or Sprouted Almond Superfood Trail Mix)

This kit kept me full and satisfied for an entire day – not an easy task.

And when I break down my normal to-go and delivery habits $59 for a day of healthy eats is actually a lot less (yikes) then what I usually spend on a normal day.

Project Juice - Clean Start Kit

The Clean Kit is available for purchase in-store only at Project Juice locations throughout the Bay Area and Southern California.

And…

If you mention this post at any Project Juice location and get $5 off your Clean Kit

What I Ate: Tacolicious – Santana Row

Tacolicious - Santana Row

San Jose’s Santana Row may very easily be my favorite escape out of the city.

The weather is always 10 degrees warmer than San Francisco, everything is clean (I’m talking Disneyland clean), there is PLENTY of parking and there are some serious spots to chow down + shop.

So when word got out that Bay Area taco staple, Tacolicious was opening on the row I was immediately down for a little Sunday Funday trip to San Jose.

Tacolicious - Santana Row

A visit to any Tacolicious is not complete without a Paloma…even though I may have spilled Paloma #3

Ooops!

#SundayFunday

tacolicious_logo

New to Tacolicious?

Check out some of my favorites from their menu:

-Chile con Queso (mike’s cheese dip). Sustainable? No. Local? Nope. Delicious? Yep. This description came directly from the menu. I am always down for queso dip – especially when I’m hungover. #SundayFunday

-Albacore Tuna Tostadas Contramar-Style. This is seriously my favorite dish on the menu. They come in an order of two – Get one for everyone at the table.

-Coctel de Camarones. Love a shrimp cocktail! Throw in some saltine crackers + everything is alright.

And you can’t visit a Tacolicious without an order (or 10) of tacos.

My go-to-tacos include: baja-style pacific cod, traditional carnitas and the guajillo-braised beef brisket.
