The Military Hat of My Dreams – Paris Fashion Week 2018

See this hat? This stunning military hat?

It is the military hat of my dreams.

I look for inspiration everywhere when planning looks for fashion week especially when I am heading to Paris. I usually start with Instagram move on to Pinterest and once I’ve got some looks in mind and I’m ready to shop head straight to ASOS. One of my secrets to shopping on ASOS is selecting the “NEW IN” tab from the top menu. These are usually items that are on trend, newly in stock (so most sizes are available) and unique.

During my usual routine of outfit planning, I found myself on the ASOS site, I selected the “NEW IN” tab and there it was, The Military Hat of My Dreams. I quickly ordered it and shortly awaited its arrival thanks to 2-day shipping with ASOS premier delivery. Lucky for me the hat arrived before my trip to Paris and I decided to pack it for a ski trip to Lake Tahoe (read all about it here). The hat didn’t make the cut for any blog photos in Lake Tahoe, made it back to San Francisco and LUCKY for me survived a car break-in two nights before I left for Europe! Phew!

Now, this may not be the military hat of EVERYONE’s dreams but I adore it. In fact, the hat has driven a lot of buzz on social media and quite a few people are NOT fans of the hat…

So I decided to share some of the comments – both good and bad.

Here are some not so nice comments from my lovely friends and followers about the military hat:

-The hat sucks. Burn it.
-That hat. Love it! Said no one ever.
-Leave that hat in Paris.
-Do us all a favor. Throw that hat in the river tonight? K. Thanks.
-TSA gonna keep that hat.
-I’m not coming back to Paris until the hat is safely back in the US. You can stay, but the hat has to go home.

But we did have some positive comments about the military hat:

-That hat def needs its own Instagram.
-LOVE the hat!!!
-GIVE THE HAT ITS OWN INSTAGRAM.
-Such a cute hat.
-Love your hate.
-The hat is quite the traveler.
-Dying over this chic hat!

Matching your blazer to your trousers (or vice-versa) is one of the most popular trends and I’m here for it – remember this Banana Republic suit from NYFW in September? Well, I decided to style a similar version in Milan (not photographed) and again in Paris.

And while styling a suit can feel slightly intimidating and stuffy, it was surprisingly simple to style. Beyond cuts, it’s easy to get even more creative with bold colors: red and yellow or ultra violet-my preference and sumptuous textures, like velvet, corduroy or top it with a faux fur coat like I did for this look.

So when we booked our trip to Europe I knew that I wanted to have another suit moment, this time in Ultra Violet…from head to toe.

According to our friends over at PANTONE our color of the year is dramatically provocative and a thoughtful purple shade? OK. Ultra Violet communicates originality, ingenuity, and visionary thinking that points us toward the future…

Me again. Still wearing stretchy pants all day, every day…but today I am not talking about my love for ALL things spandex (sad face), I am talking about drink APRÈS.

If you are anything like me you have NO problem spending all your hard earned pennies on trendy workout classes + workout gear. I mean it is January. The month where we all reevaluate our lives, decide to work out and give up EVERYTHING.

I spend the majority of my time and dollars at SoulCycle (read about it here) and Barry’s Bootcamp. I throw on my bedazzled workout gear, I sweat my heart out, I Instagram it and then I race home. Once I am home I hit the shower and am immediately on my laptop. Hours go by and I completely forget to eat! And by the time I finally remember to eat it is far too late and I have just wasted an ENTIRE workout.

And when I don’t completely forget to eat or drink after my work out I spend another $14 on a shake! Yep, $14! So, I’m saying goodbye to the $14 mistake shake after SoulCycle too.

As easy + satisfying as it is to stroll down Union St. in my fancy workout gear after my fancy workout class to snag a fancy smoothie filled with god knows what – it is just not in my cards anymore.

My main resolution for 2018 was to give up food delivery (adios UberEATS + Caviar), but as the year has progressed I have decided to take this resolution to the next level and really make a conscious effort to monitor exactly what is going in my mouth and how I am spending my hard earned dollars.

San Francisco Street Style 

Always a hot topic in my city by the bay. Why? Because the city of San Francisco has very quickly become a city filled with casual tech bros who consider washing their startup logo hoodies and wearing a fresh pair of Allbirds dressing up.

So when I hit Powell Street in San Francisco’s Union Square in this street style inspired outfit I got ALL the looks. So many looks that tourists even started taking photos of me! Yep, one even posted a photo of me on Instagram!

Considering the fact that I just got off the plane from New York Fashion Week I consider this look to be pretty toned down! Maybe it is the small sunnies? I don’t know!

When will San Francisco Street Style exist and maybe even one day compete with New York?

A travel jumpsuit?

Am I still drunk from this weekends bachelorette party?

The answers are yes and maybe yes. A travel jumpsuit is my secret weapon to traveling in style and still looking chic.

First things first, let’s address the one MAJOR issue with a travel jumpsuit – you have to get naked in a questionable restroom to use the restroom, but aside from that you are good to go. This jumpsuit looks fancy but really feels like sweats – MAJOR SCORE. The cold shoulder details give the jumpsuit a little bit of style, but it doesn’t cut too high on the neckline and you can still wear your favorite bralette or wireless bra because COMFORT IS KEY.

Ok, next up let’s discuss the shoes. Yes, I am wearing patent leather pumps on the plane. I did it. I thought it was odd at the time (the heels didn’t fit in my suitcase), but I did it and I kind of loved it. Order a 1/2 size up in these pumps, use my $50 coupon: KAT50 and you are good to go.
