Maybe it’s the amazing customer service or the return policy (not that you will need it with these pumps), but shopping at Nordstrom NEVER leads me to buyers remorse.

An Update On Gal Meets Glam Collection from Julia

Top San Francisco Fashion Blogger KatWalkSF reviews the Gal Meets Glam Collection Tyler Off the Shoulder Scuba Crepe Dress

Let me start this post by saying that I have been a huge fan of Julia Engel and Gal Meets Glam for many years. She was one of the first bloggers I ever discovered in San Francisco and although her style is a little too feminine for me, I’ve always appreciated her aesthetic and the business she has created.

Long before she moved to Charleston I used to see her at the Ferry Building farmers market on Saturday mornings buying flowers and being fabulous with Thomas…while I was sporting my best athleisure look (hungover) and sneaking Benji around for free samples – some things never change.

So when news came out that she was launching a collection of dresses I was excited to check out the collection and support another blogger. The morning of the Gal Meets Glam collection launch I headed over to Nordstrom.com and quickly snagged the two dresses that I had been eying from the lookbook – The Tyler and The Ardith.

Let’s kick this review off with the Tyler. According to the description on Nordstorm.com, it is perfect for all those summertime fetes you’ve already RSVP’d to – I don’t even know what that means. All I know is that I put this dress on and felt like a million bucks…until I got downstairs and into my Uber and the dress ripped not once but twice in the arm the moment I got into the car…leaving me feeling like a $20 Forever 21 mistake.

Yes, this dress is cut from forgiving scuba crepe and finished with a twirl-ready trumpet skirt (making it very flattering on a curvy lady) but the draped neckline does not work IRL. Last time I checked I need to move my arms to say put on my seatbelt and this dress just DOES NOT allow that. So I’m sad to report that I will be getting rid of the Tyler dress just like I got rid of Tyler from Tinder. Buh-bye.

Top San Francisco Fashion Blogger KatWalkSF reviews the Gal Meets Glam Collection Ardith Gingham Fit & Flare Midi Dress

Next up is the Ardith Gingham Fit & Flare Midi Dress from the collection. I am wearing the same size in this dress as I am wearing the Tyler dress above (8) and I could not zip it up past my bra. My photographer Shannon even tried to zip it up and it refused to go up. We both agreed that it was a combinati0on of the fabric, fit and the zipper. It should have zipped up, there was plenty of room – just a bit of a defect.

So we just took some photos of the front of the dress (avoiding the back) and did our best to make it work!

Like the Tyler, the fabric did feel worthy of the $138 price point. The 70% polyester, 22% cotton, 8% viscose blend was almost rough to the touch and not anything I would imagine wearing in warm weather – I don’t imagine it will breathe well. I really pictured this dress traveling with me through the summer due to its ability to be styled oh-so-many ways, but just like the Tyler, Edith will be returning to Nordstrom.

What I Wore:

Bag: Sensi Studio, M’O Exclusive Netted Straw Tote Bag

Boots: Public Desire (c/0), Empire

Sunglasses: Ray-Ban, Aviator Sunglasses

I wanted to love the collection, but both dresses are going back (sorry Nordstrom). Yes, the dresses photograph well but last time I checked I need both straps on a dress and the ability to zip a dress all the way up…

I’m looking forward to watching the collection progress and continuing to support fellow bloggers. Let me know in the comments if you have tried the collection and what you think of it.

UPDATE: I received a lovely note from Julia regarding the issues I had with her dresses. She thanked me for supporting her, apologized for the bad experiences I had and even offered to refund me personally for both dresses.

I had already returned both dresses to Nordstrom by the time I received her note (love their return policy) and when I let her know that she offered to send a new dress. Well, I took her up on that and my new dress arrived today. Stay tuned for another review of the Gal Meets Glam Collection.

Get Your Dress Tape + Nipple Covers Ready – The Backstage Pleated Dress

Kat Ensign, KatWalkSF, Kathleen Ensign, Nasty Gal, Backstage Pleated Dress, Fashionista, Fashion Diaries, SF Blogger, SF Stylist, GLIDE Legacy Gala, San Francisco, Cheap Dress, Affordable Gala Dress, Dress Under $50

The Backstage Pleated Dress – available in red + blue.

I fell in love with this stunning dress the moment I saw it on Kathleen Barnes’ Instagram and the $45 price tag made it a very quick addition to my wardrobe. Yep, this stunner was just $45 (and comes in a two of other colors here and here if pink isn’t your thing). I hadn’t placed an order with Nasty Gal in years and I saw this as an opportunity to give the old brand a shot and filled my cart with everything my heart desired, delightfully at 50% off.

Now, this dress was stunning on Kathleen Barnes and most likely designed for the not so busty lady – something I should have considered before I checked out. But oh-well I loved it and was determined to make it work. Thankfully I included a set of nipple covers in my Nasty Gal order (a must with this dress) which helped with the first part of my busty issue, but the dress has zero support for the girls and is quite flowy on top. So in order to keep this dress safe for the public, I had to tape it down and keep the girls in check. This double-sided, medical-grade tape ensures a no-slip fit and prevents any wardrobe malfunctions when wearing daring, more revealing styles – insert the backstage pleated dress. The tape is $16 and will save you for the rest of your life! #TrustMe

Animal Print is Taking Over! The Leopard Wrap Dress You Need This Fall.

WAYF, Gwyneth Velvet Wrap Midi Dress

What lady doesn’t love leopard print?

Leopard print has long been a wardrobe staple for stylish women, but get ready to see the trend really take over for fall and some additional animal prints are ready to join the party. From luxe leopard to snakeskin and zebra, there are endless options to take your look to the wild side this fall.

This leopard wrap dress from WAYF is $100 and can easily transition from fall to winter. This leopard-print velvet dress with an ankle-grazing wrap silhouette can be worn casually with a denim jacket or dressed up for a holiday party! Frankly, this dress is flattering, I don’t have to wear Spanx and with the help of a little pushup bra, I’m feeling fab for fall.

Leopard + Spots: not necessarily your first thoughts when thinking fall fashion…

But this fun pattern play works…right?

The leopard comes courtesy of the J.Crew original No. 2 pencil skirt. This classic silhouette is back, with a waistband that sits lower on your waist and a flattering fall appropriate knee length. Leopard print is having a serious moment for fall and this simple pencil skirt is a worthy investment. Not ready to splurge? J. Crew Factory has a very similar skirt for a quarter of the price here.

Now the spots come from an ASOS coat from last winter that is still in stock! This coat was a hit last fashion week. This lightweight coat is perfect for chilly fall mornings and has easily worked its way into my wardrobe year-round – thanks to San Francisco’s year-round fall like weather.

What do you think of this pattern play? Was it a hit or a miss?

Let me know in the comments.
