Trust me when I tell you to book this modern apartment in the heart of Roma Norte. At almost 500 square feet, the space has a main bedroom with its own full bathroom, a living room with a Smart TV, a dining table, and a fully equipped kitchenette. There’s free Wi-Fi throughout the entire property (you’ll find ex-pats everywhere working remotely), mobile check-in with electric access code at the doors, and smart switches. The building has 24/7 security, a fully equipped gym, a spectacular shared rooftop, and a complimentary communal laundry center.

I spent the majority of summer 2021 in this building and I had the summer of my life! I was traveling alone and the 24/7 security always made me feel safe and secure. The wifi, free gym, laundry, AND location make this the ideal spot to stay for a long-term visit to CDMX. This building is new and fully equipped with central air and heat (something you won’t find in every Airbnb in Mexico City). And if you stay over 7 days

Mama’s San Francisco – Is It Worth the Hype?

Mama's San Francisco Sign

Mama’s San Francisco – Is It Worth the Hype?

If you follow me on Instagram you know that I live down the street from the oh-so-famous San Francisco tourist brunch spot, Mama’s on Washington Square. In order for me to go pretty much anywhere in the city before 3 pm, I have to walk by Mama’s and the line of tourists waiting to dine there. Now I’ve lived in my apartment for almost 10 years, that’s 10 years of me watching people waiting in line for mediocre food and me fighting every urge in my body to provide everyone in line with a list of better spots to dine at in San Francisco.

Last week I was documenting the ridiculous line on my Instagram stories when a DM came in asking me when was the last time I dined there. I had to stop and really think about it…it has been YEARS and I honestly couldn’t even remember what I ordered. This follower encouraged me to go there, order the Monte Cristo and report back.

I accepted the challenge and rallied three friends to meet me there on Tuesday morning. We agreed to meet at 10:30 to get in the ridiculous line and wait with the tourists…well the joke was on us, my friend Des was the first to get there and THERE WAS NO LINE! Des texted me to tell me about the line and I was SHOCKED. I was down the street at the ATM getting cash because Mama’s is cash or debit card only and quickly ran up the hill to meet our group. By the time I got there, our group was being ushered into the line to order inside. That’s right. On a normal day, you have to wait in two lines to get food at Mama’s! We ordered as a team to make sure that we covered all the menu highlights at the front and then headed to the back to the closest table for four.

The Final Review – Was it Worth the Hype?

Before we get to our final thoughts of Mama’s San Francisco…

I hit up the Mama’s San Francisco yelp page to check out some recent reviews and see if any locals shared the same sentiment as me and found my review from 1/3/2010:

3 STARS

So I have only been here once and frankly, I just don’t get all the hype. After waiting in two ridiculous lines for god knows how long, I pretty much lost my appetite and just wanted to sit. The whole layout of this place kills me. It is like let’s see how pissed of we can make you before we feed you.
I had the shrimp Benedict and the hollandaise sauce did not mix well with the fresh shrimp. I love a good breakfast spot but this place is just OK.

Well, my friends almost nine years later my feelings towards Mama’s are EXACTLY the same. While I didn’t have to wait in a long line this visit I still left unimpressed and hungry. I ordered the Monte Cristo based on reviews and a poll I took on my Instagram stories. According to Mama’s website, the Monte Cristo has roasted turkey breast, honey baked ham, sharp cheddar, and gruyere cheese in it. The bread to meat and cheese ratio was WAY off and if I didn’t look on their website I would have had NO idea what was actually in my sandwich. The sandwich was bland and I barely ate half of it.

The Monte Cristo was served with Mama’s homemade jam, the real MVP of our meal. I honestly would have been way more satisfied just ordering two pieces of sourdough toast with their jam and calling it a day. If you scroll back up to the photos you can see that we started to just dip everything in the homemade jam. Potatoes in the jam. Monte Cristo in the jam. EVERYTHING in the jam. In a perfect world, I would just order their homemade jam to go, buy some fresh focaccia from Liguria Bakery across the street and sit in Washington Square Park alone, away from the line.

Now I did not dine alone and before we left I made everyone go around the table and share their highs and lows from the meal. My friend Ivan said the best part of the meal was dining with his friends, the crumb cake and the jam. My friend Des ordered the Dungeness Crab Cake Benedict and did not like it. The hollandaise was bland and the English muffin was hard. Both Des and Ivan thought that the Monte Cristo was disappointing and agreed that it felt like wasted empty calories. My friend Syd did not enjoy her Soju Bloody Mary and would only come back for a cup of coffee and the crumb cake.

We all agreed that this is a true tourist trap and we would never come back!

AGOLDE Parker Shorts, Park shorts review, KatWalkSF, Kat Ensign, AGOLDE denim shorts

I want to love denim shorts. I really, really do. But how can I love denim shorts when every pair I try on almost immediately tries to do me dirty? They’re always riding up, cutting me off in the worst spots or are too big in the waist and too small in the thighs – or vice versa. The discomfort is real, but how can I give up when they’re the ultimate summer piece?

Well, this summer I took a leap of faith and ordered the internet-famous AGOLDE Parker Shorts. These are bestselling denim shorts and for good reason. With over 500 raving reviews and the ability to look amazing on seriously everyone who puts them on, I have finally found the denim shorts to end all denim shorts!

I read the reviews and was still skeptical. Most of the girls I’ve seen on Instagram wearing these shorts are a size 24 and I am not a size 24! I have a booty and thighs and will do anything and everything to prevent chafing and discomfort. Flash forward to today, I’ve had these shorts for over two weeks and have worn them almost every day. I’ve worn them to the pool, on a date and to run errands. They are my go-to shorts right now because they look good, are so easy to style and they are really very comfortable. I know they are a splurge, but if you think about cost per wear I’m well on my way to getting my money out of them after just two short weeks.

These shorts are made of 100% cotton, have a button fly with just one silvertone button at the top visible and have a light blue wash (Swapmeet). There are whiskering and fading accents at the front, as well as a subtle acid wash. Light distressing throughout the shorts leads down to a raw, frayed hem.

Fit: The Parker shorts are 100% cotton with an 11.5″ high rise, a 2.5″ inseam and a 23.5″ leg opening. I normally wear a size 6/8 but went up to a size 30 in these shorts and love the fit. If you have curves (like me) and don’t enjoy denim shorts riding up your ass I would suggest going one full size up from what you normally wear in designer jeans.

Prada Fisherman Sandal Review and Sizing

I knew the moment that I spotted the Prada Fisherman sandals at Nordstrom, Corte Madera that they’d be the number one sandal trend for spring and summer. In case you need a little refresh, fisherman sandals are cage-style flat sandals that buckle at the ankle. It’s a comfortable, functional style that’s been around for decades, and it’s been reinvented many times in leather and as “jellies.” Raise your hand if you owned the GapKids colored jelly fisherman sandals in the ’90s! They were my PRIZED possession and my childhood dog, Mindy ate them! I still think about the day it happened and my full-on baby meltdown at the GapKids on Burlingame Avenue when the sales associate told us that they were sold out nationwide and could not be replaced.

Prada reinterprets classic fisherman sandals, which were particularly popular during the 1970s, with this laid-back pair. First introduced in 1913, Prada’s enamel triangle logo became the brand’s most iconic signature. Crafted from smooth leather and rubber, these fisherman sandals are adorned with the timeless motif in silver-tone hardware.

Highlights

  • leather
  • enamel triangle logo
  • round toe
  • buckle-fastening ankle strap
  • branded insole
  • ridged rubber sole

10/10 – 5 stars – My favorite shoes

I bought these shoes before a recent trip to Hawaii and wore them on the plane. I know, I know this was a risky move, but they didn’t fit in my carry-on suitcase and they had to make their debut on this trip.

Well let me tell you something, I did not regret wearing these sandals on the plane for one minute. They are lightweight, comfortable and a dream to travel in. I wore the sandals (almost) every day of the trip and even managed to work them into my Spring wardrobe when I got back to San Francisco.

These are the shoes of the summer! #TrustMe

Sizing

I normally wear a size 8/38 and sized down a full size to a 37.

*I have a very narrow foot and feel like that is the only reason why I needed to size down. I read several reviews and most people shared that they ran true to size.
