The Benefits of an Off-The-Shoulder Dress and The Dangers of Online Shopping

San Francisco fashion blogger KatWalkSF shares the benefits of wearing an off-the-shoulder dress.

The benefits of an off-the-shoulder dress are endless, especially since I am still searching for my summer body (check out my post on the perfect cover-up here).

An off-the-shoulder dress can create a sexy, yet casual look no matter your frame. A broad-shouldered woman can wear this look by being strategic about her styling. You can rock an off-the-shoulder frock by being mindful of accessory choices, color options and more.

AND since this is a well-established trend you can also snag it at all price points. The dress in this post is from my go-to retailer ASOS and just $64!

The Benefits of an Off-The-Shoulder Dress

What’s not beneficial is this bag. We’ve all done it  – ordered something online, loved it online and when it was delivered it looked NOTHING like what you were expecting!

This bag is a PRIME example of an online shopping mistake. We’ve all seen the Cult Gaia bag with a cult following, well my friends this bag is not it.

According to the editors over at Net-a-porter: Cult Gaia’s ‘Big’ tote is this season’s take on the label’s instantly recognizable ‘Ark’ clutch. It’s crafted from natural bamboo in an oversized portfolio-inspired shape that folds completely flat, so you it will fit easily into your suitcase. The unlined interior has plenty of room for beach essentials like a towel, sunscreen, and magazines.

Wait just a minute Net-a-porter! Yes, this tote is large but you absolutely can not put one item inside of it. It is so thin and fragile yet so LARGE. I was afraid to even put it together without breaking it! This bag serves not one purpose! Adios large tote you were 100% an online shopping mistake.

Despite the bad bag in the second look with this off-the-shoulder dress I am still a fan of this dress and believe my benefits of a good off-the-shoulder dress this summer!

  1. Oh my goodness that wooden bag!!! What a funny story, I would have returned it too 😛

  2. Both of your looks are stunning, and the bag DID serve one purpose, that is: to look good in a few pictures, to then be tossed away, haha. It’s not good from a consumer perspective however and I hate it when that online shopping mistake happens. But like I said, at least it looked good with the first outfit! 🙂

  3. I love a good off the shoulder dress! That bag story is too funny! Totally would have returned it too!

  4. Online shopping is a risky thing. I think it would be right to say that we all have our fair share of online shopping mistakes. I know how you feel about it! But you still rocked it!

  5. HAHA that bag! Completely loved your honesty! I think the little turquoise tote is a lot cuter anyways 😉 I wish I liked off shoulder pieces more – but they never ever ever stay on properly. However, if I were to hit the jackpot on OTS tops and dresses that stayed put, I’d be sold, because they sure are cute!

  6. such a beautiful white number for spring and summer! love the off-the-shoulder too xx

  7. girl I am LOLing! That bag is enormous!! At least you’ve got a fun online shopping story to share with us 😉 the dress looks beautiful on you btw.

  8. Yes! I couldn’t agree more- off-the-shoulder is a sexy, yet casual look! And yes, I’ve definitely been there with the online shopping. Isn’t it the worst?! Love the blue bag with this look though!

  9. Omg the first bag! Is that real lol. So big and amazing. Love the dress.

  10. I have to have this dress!! And can we talk about that bamboo bag?! AMAZING!
